ABOUT Our Doctors

– Dr. Andrews

Dr. Kevin J. Andrews is an artist, but he doesn’t work with oils or watercolors, he works with teeth. Using wire, plastic, glue and bits of metal, he produces world-class smiles in his orthodontic office at 2125 Green Vista Drive, Sparks, Nevada. He’s a guy who loves what he’s doing and can’t imagine doing anything else!
Dr. Andrews was raised in Southern California and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loma Linda Dental School in 1988. He practiced dentistry for two years before returning to school to specialize in orthodontics. He then moved back to Reno where two generations of his family have lived. Dr. Andrews is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, a certified Diplomate of the National Board of Orthodontics and the Former President of the Nevada Orthodontic Association, for the state of Nevada.

In September of 1993, he bought a small practice in Reno and has built it up to its present level. In February 1998, Dr. Andrews relocated his practice to Sparks, Nevada and since then has been welcoming patients to his well-appointed office across from Wildcreek Golf Course. There, he and his team offer what he calls “personalized orthodontics.”

Dr. Kevin J. Andrews is a specialist in smiles. He uses the latest technology to give his patients a new sense of self and says he gets the most satisfaction from, “Knowing that we’re setting our patients up for good health and positive self-images for the rest of their lives. It’s important to me that when they come here, we make them feel special and they do – you can see it in their smiles!” “About 20% of our patients are adults between the ages of 25 and 45,” he says, “although I’ve treated patients as young as 4 years old, and as old as 74.”

The first visit to Dr. Andrews involves an orthodontic evaluation that includes an x-ray, visual examination and computerized digital imaging photographs of the patient’s teeth and face which gives the patient and the doctor a full color view.

– Dr. Philip

“What I love about orthodontics is that I can create both a beautiful radiant smile while improving a patient’s bite and oral function. To be able to have a positive impact on another person’s life, self-esteem, and confidence is why I love what I do.”

Dr. Philip Rutkowski received his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from University of Michigan and went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. After graduation, Dr. Philip practiced as a general dentist in Chicago,IL before deciding to pursue his passion and attain an advanced degree in the specialty of Orthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA.

While at Tufts University, Dr. Rutkowski was named a recipient of the Dr. Norman H. Diamond Endowed Prize for Excellence in Orthodontics. More importantly, Dr. Philip was fortunate to meet his lovely wife, Dr. Kat, during residency. After a few years of practicing in the Midwest, Dr. Philip and Dr. Kat decided to move west to Reno to be closer to family and set down roots in an area they love.

Dr. Rutkowski is an American board certified orthodontist as well as an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the Northern Nevada Dental Society. In his free time, Dr. Rutkowski enjoys exploring the Reno-Tahoe area with his wife Dr. Kat and their dog Hazel. – Dr. Kat

“Ever since I was a child, I have always had a passion for arts and creativity. Orthodontics was a perfect way for me to express my artistic ability by helping patients reach their smile goals. One of my favorite parts of orthodontics is seeing the positive impact that a smile transformation can have on the lives of children by helping to foster their self-confidence at an early age.”

Dr. Katharina Fung was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She attended the Tufts University College of Arts and Sciences where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology. She went on to pursue her passion for dentistry and received a Doctorate of Dental Medicine and Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. In residency, she was awarded the Dr. Norman H. Diamond Endowed Prize for excellence in orthodontics. This is also where she met her husband, Dr. Philip Rutkowski. Dr. Kat practiced in both Boston and Chicago before making the decision to move out west.

Dr. Kat and Dr. Philip eloped in Lake Tahoe and knew from that moment that they wanted to make Reno their forever home. It was the community-oriented feel and truly warm and welcoming people that made it an easy decision for them to envision this as a place to start a family.

Dr. Katharina is an American Board Certified Orthodontist and an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the Northern Nevada Dental Society.

In her spare time, Dr. Kat enjoys exploring new places with her husband (Dr. Philip) and dog, Hazel. She loves to draw, paint, ski, and enjoys trying all the great restaurants the Reno has to offer.
